Ingredients

Serves 6 easily

Apple Mixture

10 apples of your choice, peeled and chopped into approximately 1 inch pieces

1 tablespoon good vanilla

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar in the raw

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 tablespoon good cinnamon

1 tablespoon flour

6 tablespoons butter

Crumble Topping

1 cup flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar in the raw

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 tablespoon good cinnamon

8 tablespoons cold butter

To Prepare

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

In a large mixing bowl, add peeled and chopped apples. Drizzle vanilla over the apples and stir. Sprinkle brown and raw sugar, salt, cinnamon, and flour over the apples coated in vanilla and stir to combine ingredients.

For the topping add all ingredient into a bowl. Cut butter into chunks and add to the bowl. Mix the butter into the topping ingredients as though you were making pie crust. Rub your hands together with the topping until the butter is in small pieces and it looks like a crumble. You may also add all ingredients into a small food processor and pulse it a few times, this will also create the crumble.

Put a large cast iron pan on the stove and heat it gently. As it begins to get hot add 6 tablespoons of butter and let it melt. As it melts, add the apple mixture and gently cook the apples, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the crumble topping on top of the apples and put the cast iron skillet into the oven for about 25-30 minutes until topping is golden brown and a bit bubbly around the edges.

You can serve this right out of the skillet or put it in bowls, top with good vanilla bean ice cream and caramel sauce.
